The Main Gallery | The Heart of the Center
The Main Gallery is the centerpiece of the Downtown Arts Center—the primary exhibition and gathering space designed to showcase Tampa’s diverse and dynamic creative community. As visitors enter the Center, the gallery offers a flexible, high-impact visual experience that can host rotating exhibitions, community art showcases, cultural festivals, receptions, and multimedia installations. It is the most visible and photographed area of the entire Center, symbolizing Tampa’s creative identity.
The Art Display System—referred to here as The Grid—forms the architectural and curatorial backbone of the Downtown Arts Center. It transforms the interior shell into a modular, flexible exhibition environment capable of hosting everything from single-artist installations to multimedia group shows.
SAFE | The Vault for Art, Calm & Recharge
A one-of-a-kind immersive vault space that transforms a historic bank vault into a sanctuary for creative restoration. Through light, sound, and motion, SAFE invites downtown residents, workers, and visitors to pause. It is an opportunity to breathe and connect with art in stillness. SAFE = “Sanctuary for Art, Focus & Equilibrium”
Donor Wall & Digital Recognition System
The Donor Wall at the Downtown Arts Center will be a hybrid installation—part digital media display, part physical artwork—designed to celebrate the individuals, families, and organizations whose generosity makes the Center possible. A large digital screen will display donor names in a continuous rotation, with soft animations and background imagery. Donors contributing $10,000 or more will be permanently recognized through decorative art plaques or sculptural elements integrated into the wall.
Welcome Desk & Retail Display System
The Welcome Desk & Merch Display Area serves as the front-of-house hub for the Downtown Arts Center — the first point of contact for visitors, guests, and members. Designed as a custom-built millwork feature, it combines an information center, check-in counter, retail display wall, and point-of-sale system, blending functionality and aesthetics.
The ADA Restroom is a single-stall, gender-neutral, fully accessible restroom designed to exemplify the Center’s commitment to equity, dignity, and universal design. This private, inclusive space provides accessibility for individuals with mobility devices, parents with children, and visitors seeking privacy and safety. Artist-designed finishes elevate this essential facility into a meaningful, art-integrated experience.
